Let’s talk about faith

Hebrews 11: 1-3
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of GOD, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

Friends, let’s talk about faith today.

What is faith for you?

What is your faith like?

Do you have a definition?

Do you have a reference in the bible, a story which describes you?

Are you more a Thomas or a Peter or a Judas or a Daniel when it comes to your faith?

If you are anything like me or even most Christians I know, you will be like all of them at different times and like one of them most of the time…

Yes, I do know those brothers and sisters in CHRIST with stronger and those with weaker faith than me, at least that’s what I consider their faith – and I wouldn’t do it, since I know I am not supposed to do it and it is definitely none of my business, but then, we all do it, don’t we?
We all like to show GOD how strongly we believe in HIM, at least, we believe that our faith is so strong.

Is it really?

I guess it is like every feeling or relationship – the time when the strength of it truly shows is always the time when things get really difficult.

When they don’t do what you want them to do, when they ignore you, when you feel wronged or abandoned or ignored.

Ever felt one of the above regarding your relationship with OUR FATHER?

Most of us have.

And then, what is our response?

I would even go as far and say that our response towards GOD is likely to be the same response we show in our relationships with our fellow human beings, but that’s another topic.

So did HE ever NOT hear you?
Did you ever feel abandoned and let down or even punished when you thought you didn’t deserve it?

I think ALL of us have felt that at some point.
From OUR FATHER in heaven just as from our parents here on earth.

And what did we do?

I know MANY people who became atheists, because they were dissapointed in OUR FATHER’s response to them.
Dissapointed in one way or another.
Because HE didn’t grant them what they had been asking for in prayer.
Because HE didn’t help them solve a problem or bring peace to a situation.
Because HE let an illness come upon them or an accident happen and they believe HE should be a better protector. Or a better provider. Or a more communicative GOD….

I am asking myself and I am asking you today, my friend, can we even be faithful believers at all when things are running smoothely and when we have and get what we want?

Seriously… what do we believe when we are happy and lack nothing? DO we honestly KNOW that it all came from HIM, that HE made us and that ALL we have and enjoy is OF HIM?
I suppose we don’t.
In my opinion, what we usually do or at least partly is when everything is fine and dandy, we take the credit for it instead of giving all the glory to GOD.
Don’t we?
I am definitely guilty of that!
I try not to do it and yet, I catch myself praising myself for having been so clever, diligent or efficient in my works.
For having “managed” things or circumstances so well.
For having everything under control –  we do like to think we are in control, don’t we!

I even think it is sometimes a reminder of OUR FATHER himself when things get out of control!

It is when things and circumstances have grown over my head, when I am no longer in control, when it gets too much for me to handle when I most understand, remember and SEE that HE is ALWAYS and NONSTOP in total control of my life and I am NOT.
Sometimes I even NEED these reminders in order to keep dwelling in the KNOWING that HE runs the show, not ME!

PLUS, I can see and I have learned that HE wants us to believe HIM for everything, wants to be involved in ALL our affairs, wants to be asked about ALL we ever possibly wonder about, no matter how small or random it may be.
HE wants to be in permanent contact and communication with us, wants us to never, ever forget HIM, to speak to HIM permanently, to be part of our lives really, the most important companion, advisor, father, brother, friend, teacher, doctor, confidant, fellow, our most frequent and most favorite company, always by our side – that’s what I believe HE wants to be to us, not someone we only turn to when things get rough and when we need help!

So I came to the conclusion that sometimes, we need these obstacles in order to build our faith, in order to be reminded that HE can do anything and also in order to have a strong testimony and be a witness of HIS greatness towards others.

I believe HE wants us to exercise our faith regularly, like a muscle, to practise all the time and to grow it.

Why else would JESUS have taught about faith so much and why else would HE have taught faith to be the secret to nothing being impossible for us?

Matthew 17: 20
And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Even the secret of receiving ANYTHING from OUR FATHER?
It is very important to HIM, I am more and more beginning to understand how important really!

Mark 11: 23-24
23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

I came to see that HE really wants us to exercise and grow our “faith muscle” as much and as often as we can – in order to receive, in order to be a witness and increase HIS glory and HIS kingdom.

The more I understand about and be in faith, the more faithful HE is to me…
